Dermasmooth
If your skin looks dull or uneven, no matter what products you use, buildup may be the issue. Dead skin cells and fine vellus hairs, also known as peach fuzz, can prevent smooth makeup application and interfere with your natural glow. Exfoliation helps, but surface-level products often aren’t enough to fully refresh the skin.
Dermasmooth is our cosmetic dermaplaning treatment in which one of our expert Aestheticians uses a device to gently remove dead skin cells and vellus hairs, leaving skin smooth with a beautiful, healthy glow. At Trouvaille Med Spa in Bourbonnais, we offer a basic Dermasmooth Facial. Dermasmoothing can also be added to an advanced facial or in combination with a peel.
What Is Dermasmooth?
During a Dermasmooth facial, we use a sterile surgical blade to gently exfoliate your skin. We carefully glide the blade across your skin at a precise angle to lift away dead skin cells and surface buildup that can make your complexion appear dull or uneven. By clearing this layer, we create a smoother texture that enhances your skin’s natural glow and allows your skincare products to absorb more effectively. The treatment feels comfortable and leaves your skin noticeably softer without downtime.
What Dermasmooth Treats
Dull or Dry Skin
Dry, lackluster skin often develops when dead cells build up on the surface and block light from reflecting evenly. With Dermasmooth, we manually exfoliate that outer layer to reveal fresher, healthier-looking skin underneath. The result is a more radiant complexion that feels soft and hydrated.
Fine Lines and Superficial Wrinkles
Superficial lines and wrinkles can appear more pronounced when skin texture is uneven. Dermasmooth can help soften the appearance of fine lines by removing surface debris and promoting smoother skin. Although dermaplaning does not reach structural wrinkles, it can visibly improve how light interacts with the skin, which reduces the shadowing that makes lines look deeper than they are.
Rough or Uneven Skin Texture
Uneven skin often feels bumpy or looks blotchy, even if there are no active breakouts or redness. This texture typically comes from dead skin accumulation, past breakouts, or environmental exposure. With Dermasmooth, we gently resurface the top layer to smooth irregularities and refine your skin’s texture. Regular treatments can help maintain that polished appearance.
Clogged Pores or Minor Congestion
When dead skin and oil trap debris in your pores, it can lead to blackheads or congestion, especially in areas like the nose, chin, or forehead. Dermasmooth physically clears away the dead skin that contributes to clogged pores and allows your at-home skincare products to work more efficiently. It pairs well with deep-cleansing facials or chemical exfoliants when more intensive support is needed.
Peach Fuzz
Fine facial hair can trap oil, dead skin, and makeup. If you have wondered how to remove facial hair without waxing, Dermasmooth offers a gentle, effective alternative. We use a surgical blade to remove peach fuzz without tugging or pulling the skin, which means you avoid the irritation and redness that often follows waxing or threading.
Poor Makeup Adherence
Foundation and concealer often cling to dry patches or settle into uneven areas, which can leave your makeup looking cakey or exaggerated. After Dermasmooth, makeup adheres more evenly and smoothly and gives you a more natural finish with less product. The smoother canvas also means your makeup routine may take less time and produce better results.
Mild Hyperpigmentation or Sun Damage
Dark spots, uneven tone, and discoloration from sun exposure can make your complexion look uneven. By exfoliating the outermost layer, Dermasmooth helps fade the appearance of mild sun damage and pigment irregularities. While it will not treat deep pigmentation or melasma, it can complement other treatments like chemical peels or laser therapy to support a more even skin tone.
Benefits of Dermasmooth
- Delivers instant smoothness and radiance without downtime
- Suitable for sensitive skin
- Offers a gentle, relaxing alternative to harsher exfoliation methods
- Can be done year-round without increased sun sensitivity
Who Is a Good Candidate for Dermasmooth?
If you are looking for gentle exfoliation without, Dermasmooth may be a great option for you. It works well for those who want to brighten dull skin, smooth out rough patches, and create a fresh, radiant appearance using a less invasive approach. Most skin types can benefit from dermaplaning, including sensitive skin and those who are pregnant and may need to avoid other types of exfoliation or active ingredients.
We may recommend avoiding Dermasmooth if you have active acne, are currently taking Accutane, or have certain skin conditions that could react negatively to exfoliation. If you are unsure, we will evaluate your skin during a consultation and help determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you. Our goal is to recommend the safest, most effective option based on your skin’s current condition and your overall goals.
What to Expect From Dermasmooth
Before
The first step is a free consultation with one of our expert aestheticians for an
assessment. During your consultation, we will take a close look at your skin and talk through your concerns, goals, and current skincare routine. If you have any recent breakouts, sensitivities, or medical treatments that could affect your results, we will address those before scheduling your treatment.
You do not need to prepare your skin in any special way, but we may advise you to pause the use of certain products, such as retinoids or exfoliating acids, in the days leading up to your appointment. Keeping your skin calm and hydrated helps you get the best results from your session. Your consultation is our chance to determine if this is the best treatment to meet your needs and to prepare you for your appointment.
During
Our Dermasmooth Facial lasts approximately an hour and a half. Dermaplaning itself takes around 30 minutes and is usually combined with one of our facials or peels.
If you are receiving dermaplaning alone, we begin by thoroughly cleansing your skin to remove any oils, makeup, or debris. Your aesthetician then gently holds your skin taut while using a sterile surgical blade to glide across the surface at a specific angle. The process feels like a gentle brushing sensation and is typically relaxing. When paired with a facial or peel, we usually perform dermaplaning first and then follow it with the additional facial treatment, visibly enhancing their benefits.
After
After Dermasmooth, your skin will likely feel smoother and appear more radiant right away. It is normal to experience mild redness for a few hours, especially if your skin is naturally reactive. Use gentle, hydrating products that support the skin barrier, and skip anything that might irritate freshly exfoliated skin. Makeup can typically be worn the next day, but if you plan to wear it sooner, we can guide you on safe application. Sun protection is especially important after dermaplaning, since freshly exfoliated skin can be more sensitive to UV damage. If you have any unusual symptoms or need help with post-treatment care, we are always available to assist you. After your treatment:
- Use skincare products recommended by your Aesthetician
- Do not use Hydroxyl Acids or Retinols for approximately three days
- Do not use harsh scrubs or loofahs for at least three days
- Avoid direct sun exposure and wear sunscreen daily
- Avoid vigorous activity and heat
Any additional questions and concerns can be addressed by our expert Aestheticians at Trouvaille Med Spa in Bourbonnais.
Customizing Dermasmooth With Other Treatments
Facials
A Dermasmooth facial allows you to get the benefits of both exfoliation and hydration in one session. We customize your facial using ingredients suited to your skin’s condition that day, whether you need calming, brightening, or extra moisture. During cooler months, we may recommend richer products to combat dryness, while summer facials may focus on calming or oil control. Starting with dermaplaning allows those ingredients to penetrate more effectively and gives your appearance a noticeable boost.
Chemical Peels
When used together with a light chemical peel, Dermasmooth can enhance the resurfacing effect without creating extra irritation. By clearing the surface first, we allow the peel to work more evenly and with more precision. This pairing is especially helpful if you want to address early signs of sun damage or pigmentation. We always choose a peel that matches your skin sensitivity and goals to keep the treatment comfortable and effective.
LED Light Therapy
Dermasmooth with LED light therapy can help soothe the skin and support your natural healing process. Red light promotes collagen activity and reduces redness, while blue light targets bacteria that can contribute to breakouts. Since your skin is freshly exfoliated, the light can interact more directly with your skin’s surface and make each session more efficient.
Masks and Skincare
Hydrating or treatment masks can be particularly effective after dermaplaning. Without a layer of dead skin or fine hair blocking absorption, the active ingredients in your mask or serum can work more directly on the skin. We may apply soothing masks for hydration, vitamin-infused formulas for radiance, or clarifying blends to reduce congestion. We will also guide you on the best at-home skincare to maintain your results and support long-term skin health.
How Often Should You Get Dermasmooth?
Most patients benefit from a Dermasmooth treatment every four to six weeks, which aligns with your skin’s natural renewal cycle. Regular treatments help maintain a consistently smooth texture, brighten your complexion, and support better absorption of your skincare products. If you are using Dermasmooth to prepare for a special event, we recommend scheduling it a few days ahead to give your skin time to settle and glow. We will adjust the timing based on your skin type and other treatments you may be receiving.
How Does Dermasmooth Compare With Other Exfoliation Methods?
Dermasmooth gently removes dead skin and peach fuzz and may be more suitable for very sensitive skin types. Microdermabrasion also exfoliates the skin but relies on suction and fine crystals, which can feel harsher and may not be ideal for reactive skin. At-home scrubs and exfoliating brushes can help with surface buildup, but they lack the precision and effectiveness of a professional dermaplaning treatment. Most exfoliation methods do not remove facial hair, and they often require longer recovery or more caution with sun exposure.
How to Maintain Your Results
After Dermasmooth, keep your skin hydrated and protected to preserve your smooth, radiant finish. Use a gentle cleanser, follow with a hydrating serum or moisturizer, and always apply sunscreen in the morning. Avoid harsh scrubs, active exfoliants, or strong acids for a few days, since freshly exfoliated skin needs time to recover. If you stay consistent with your home routine between appointments, you can extend the benefits of your treatment and support long-term skin health. We can also recommend products tailored to your skin’s needs during your visit.
Frequently Asked Questions About Dermasmooth
Will My Hair Grow Back Thicker or Darker?
Dermaplaning does not change the color, thickness, or growth rate of your hair. The fine vellus hairs we remove during Dermasmooth will grow back at the same texture and speed as before. You may feel the hair more as it grows back only because the blunt edge left by the blade feels different than the natural tapered tip, but it does not become coarser or darker.
Is Dermaplaning Painful?
Dermasmooth is a painless treatment. We use a sterile surgical blade to gently glide across your skin without causing discomfort. You might feel a slight scraping sensation, but it is usually relaxing rather than irritating. Unlike waxing or more aggressive exfoliation methods, dermaplaning does not pull the skin or cause a burning or stinging sensation.
Can Men Get Dermaplaning?
Dermasmooth works well for men who want smoother skin, better product absorption, and a cleaner canvas for shaving. However, we have to avoid any beard growth areas, even when shaved, since these hairs are too thick for the dermaplaning blade. We can treat the cheeks, forehead, and other areas where vellus hair and buildup tend to accumulate.
How Soon Will I See Dermaplaning Results?
Results from a dermaplane facial are visible immediately. As soon as the dead skin and peach fuzz are removed, your skin looks brighter, feels smoother, and reflects light more evenly. Makeup will apply more evenly, and skincare products will absorb more easily.
How Much Does Dermaplaning Cost?
Pricing for Dermasmooth depends on whether you receive it as a standalone treatment or combine it with a facial, peel, or other service. We offer a basic Dermasmooth treatment, as well as advanced combinations that enhance the results with added exfoliation, hydration, or calming therapies. During your consultation, we will go over the options and pricing so you can choose what fits your goals and budget best.
