The latest reports from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that 2.6 million people in the United States get dermal filler injections every year. One of the most popular brands is Restylane.
Restylane fillers add volume to certain areas of your face, providing lasting results you can count on. Read on to learn more about what hyaluronic fillers can do.
What Are Restylane Fillers?
Restylane fillers are a type of dermal filler that uses hyaluronic acid to help smooth out static wrinkles and fill in areas of your face that may have lost volume with age.
As your collagen and elastin production decreases with age, your skin can start to develop dynamic wrinkles — the ones caused by repeated expressions like smiling and frowning.
The lack of elasticity that comes with a lower collagen production can transform those dynamic wrinkles into static ones. Static wrinkles are wrinkles that are visible at all times.
Restylane fillers use hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring acid in your body found in the connective tissue of the skin, to help plump up the skin. The acid hangs on to your skin, and the water in the acid creates volume. Because hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules, it can help preserve the volume.
Restylane can help with:
- Lines around the mouth
- Lip enhancement
- Adding volume to the cheeks
- Minimizing dark under-eye circles
Restylane lip fillers are popular because of how naturally they can enhance lips, providing the fullness people want.
The best candidates for Restylane fillers are women and men who do not want to undergo invasive cosmetic procedures to get more facial volume or reduce signs of aging.
People who are not good candidates are those who:
- Are immunocompromised
- Are allergic to bacterial protein
- Take blood thinners
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
If you’re not sure if you’re a good candidate for Restylane, schedule a consultation with us and we’ll advise you.
What Benefits Does Restylane Offer?
Because the main ingredient is one your body naturally makes, hyaluronic acid, Restylane is a great filler for delicate areas like your lips and under your eyes. It can help you get the exact level of volume you want.
Restylane uses NASHA technology, which makes it possible for each of Restylane’s different product lines to have unique particle sizes to treat different areas of the body. A Restylane lip filler can be different from one we use for adding volume to your cheeks, for example. This allows us to more precisely deliver the results you’re looking for.
Restylane is also a minimally invasive treatment that allows you to return to your daily life without worrying about a long recovery time after the procedure.
Additionally, the results are immediate, so you can start enjoying your enhanced look right away.
Preparing for Restylane Fillers
When you schedule an appointment with us, make sure to bring a list of all of the medications and supplements you take. We will also ask you for your full medical history and about any allergies you may have. If you have received fillers before, tell us about your experience. You should also tell us if you’re prone to developing cold sores.
One week before getting the filler injections, we ask that you stop taking blood-thinning medications and supplements like ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E, and fish oil.
Two days before the treatment, stop drinking alcohol and avoid topical products that are abrasive, such as those containing glycolic acid. You should also avoid tweezing, waxing, the use of depilatory creams, and bleaching the treatment area.
Come to your appointment with a clean face. Don’t use makeup, creams, lotions, or even sunscreen. We will wash your face with an antiseptic before we start, and we will also apply a numbing cream to the area.
Once you feel comfortable, we’ll begin the injections. The injections will take a few minutes, depending on the size of the area you want to be treated. After the injections are over, you can go right back to your day.
Aftercare and Results
You can apply an ice pack to the area, but make sure to avoid scratching, rubbing, or picking at the injection sites. You should avoid intense heat, so stay out of the sun, do not use hot tubs or saunas, and don’t exercise vigorously for at least 24 hours.
You can use gentle cleansers, but if possible, avoid applying makeup for at least one day. Don’t take blood-thinning medications for at least a week after the injections.
You can start seeing results almost immediately with Restylane injections.
How long does Restylane last? People who get full treatments often see results that last up to 18 months. If you get cheek injections, you can enjoy volume for up to a year, and if you get injections for your nasolabial folds or lips, they can last up to six months.
