PicoLazer: Laser Treatments for Tattoo Removals and More

According to a Washington Post survey, an average of 23% of people who get tattoos go on to regret them. Regret can sink in almost as soon as you get the tattoo, and you may think you’re stuck with it for life. However, that’s not the case. To remove a tattoo or help skin pigmentation issues and other imperfections, you can turn to laser treatments.

At Trouvaille Med Spa, we use PicoLazer technology. Read on to learn more about how PicoLazer provides tattoo removals, hair removal, and other services.

What Is PicoLazer?

PicoLazer is a non-surgical and non-invasive tattoo removal and laser hair removal service that uses energy to target specific pigments while also stimulating elastin and collagen production to help your skin heal after the removal.

PicoLazer technology works by sending short pulses of energy to the treatment areas — without using heat. The energy destroys the pigments of concern, letting your body eliminate them naturally.

PicoLazer is precise and can help treat many skin concerns, including:

  • Discoloration
  • Acne scars
  • Wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Sunspots
  • Unwanted tattoos
  • Unwanted hair

For people who have birthmarks, melasma, sun damage, or other skin pigmentation concerns, PicoLazer can help by minimizing inflammatory pigmentation.

Because it allows us to target areas in the most precise manner, PicoLazer is safer than other laser treatments. We can also adjust the laser’s wavelengths and use a variety of applicators to deliver the results you want.

PicoLazer is a particularly effective laser tattoo removal solution. The laser’s high specifications make the destruction of the targeted pigments much quicker, ensuring that you won’t have to get many treatment sessions to get rid of your unwanted tattoos.

It can also provide laser hair removal. The light that PicoLazer emits goes into the hair’s pigment, damaging the follicles and making it impossible for them to grow new hair.

PicoLazer is a good option for most skin types and tones, which sets it apart from some other laser treatments. The best candidates for PicoLazer are people in good overall health with no skin infections. They should also have realistic expectations.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of abnormal scarring, have a history of strong allergic reactions to tattoo ink, are taking medications that make your skin more sensitive to light, or have tanned skin, you may not be the best candidate for the procedure.

Benefits of PicoLazer

Unlike other laser treatments, PicoLazer’s light does not become thermal energy. This means that there’s no risk for people with darker skin. Other laser hair removal services work best for people with light skin and dark hair, but PicoLazer works for practically everyone.

PicoLazer doesn’t require any downtime so you can get back to most of your daily activities without delay.

The device’s 450-picosecond pulse technology is much faster than other lasers, which ensures that you get speedy, accurate treatments.

It’s also a highly customizable option, with different applicators and wavelengths to help you get the results you want.

Preparing for PicoLazer

You need to make an appointment with us to see if you are a good candidate for PicoLazer treatments. During your consultation, we’ll ask you about your medical history and what your goals are.

You can give us a list of medications you take, especially any that might make your skin more sensitive to light. These might be antibiotics, retinol, or retinoids.

The consultation is also a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you have about the procedure.

Before receiving treatment, you make sure that you stay out of the sun and avoid tanning creams for four weeks before your session. You may want to apply sunscreen to the treatment areas if you do plan on getting sun exposure.

You also want to stop using blood-thinning medications like aspirin and ibuprofen. Don’t schedule any abrasive skin treatments like microdermabrasion or chemical peels, and stop waxing the treatment areas.

The PicoLazer Procedure and Aftercare

Make sure to get to your appointment session on time and with a clean treatment area. Don’t wear lotions, perfumes, makeup, or contact lenses.

Before beginning the procedure, we will apply a topical numbing cream and allow it to take effect. During the procedure, we make two passes over the treatment areas with the laser. For smaller areas, the procedure might only take 30 minutes.

After treatment, you can return to most of your daily activities. You want to stay out of the sun for a few more days and drink lots of water to help your skin heal faster. We recommend that you moisturize by using aloe vera gel and that you apply sunscreen when you go outside.

It is important not to rub or scratch the treatment areas and that you avoid swimming, hot tubs, and even baths until your skin heals completely.

Most people see results after just one treatment session, though we do recommend getting at least three sessions to get maximum results.
